I wasn’t one of those kids born with a camera in his hand. I was, however, born with stories in my head. I drew flip-pad movies, filmed claymation shorts and invented complicated tales of normal people and their adventures. I even dreamt up ads. (Seriously. You can ask my mother at karenpines@gmail.com.)
I headed east for college and grad school (U. Penn, Columbia), then started shooting my stories. And it is a privilege to be doing so. Photography lets me express what I and probably you are searching for: a world better than real life, moments that transcend the everyday and offer a glimpse of humanity’s best.
I’ve been told that I have a talent for connecting with people, for drawing out unexpected moments. Even so, I love the collaboration of a planned shoot. There is real magic when all those talents work toward a common goal.
I’m also a Nitrox-certified scuba diver and an Eagle Scout. You need first aid 150 feet underwater, I’m your man.
